In 2018, the European Commission awarded the European Heritage Label to the Maastricht Treaty because of its great importance for European history, integration and identity.
Historic
The Ottonian wall of Maastricht refers to the supposed city wall or city wall from the Ottonian period in the Dutch city of Maastricht. The wall was probably built around 930 by Duke Giselbert II in a wide arc around St Servatius Abbey to protect the abbey – and possibly royal and ducal possessions – from enemy attacks. Archaeological evidence for the existence of the Ottonian wall has been found in 1980.
The city is full of parks and flowers so you can enjoy (specially in May) a city full with flowers and big pots so you can be surrounded with a rainbow of colors.
The city is full of color. On Thursdays there is a fish market, and you can get fresh fish and all kind of sea food.
